Purff
Designed a pet social networking app for iOS in accordance with human interface guidelines based on user research.
Personal project
July 2023
Intro
A social media app that brings furry friendships alive by uniting paws and whiskers. I did the user research part with my team. The user interface part i.e. wire framing, designing, prototyping was a solo project done over a span of 8 weeks. The project prompt was to make a social networking app dedicated to a niche.

Problem
The project prompt was creating a social networking app for a niche. After considering multiple options, I decided to create an app for pets, inspired by the lack of interaction between pets in modern nuclear families.

User research
I conducted user research in two parts: qualitative interviews and a quantitative survey. And did affinity mapping based on the interview results, which revealed that the majority of pet owners owned dogs and cats. Consequently, the app was designed to include these two categories(dogs and cats). While I initially considered an online marketplace, most users expressed a preference for shopping offline, so it was not included. The research also showed that users enjoyed funny and informative pet videos and desired social connections for their pets.

I created user persona, did empathy mapping and made journey map in accordance to that persona. I then proceeded to create task flows and user flows for the main tasks of the app, which were social networking features like chatting and services like adoption.

Wireframing and designs
After finalizing everything I created lo-fidelity wireframes and then final designs.
Design decisions included adding an indicator to the tab bar to show which section the user is in to make it more accessible for users who find it hard to differentiate between black and shades of grey. I added doodles to the memory book to give it a playful touch.
